Write Your Own Scooby Doo Episode

Since I’ve been home with Matthew these past months, I’ve been exposed to a variety of cartoons. Among Matt’s favorites are the ever beloved Tom and Jerry and Scooby Doo. Scooby Doo is a little formulaic, don’t you think? Write your own episode:

Scooby and the Gang:

  1. Are on vacation in an exotic location.
  2. Are stuck on the side of a dark road outside a creepy mansion because the Mystery Machine broke down AGAIN.
  3. Stumble upon an abandoned, spooky carnival.

Then they meet:

  1. A helpful hotel clerk who explains the hotel is haunted and all the guests have left- and they should go, too, if they know what’s good for them.
  2. A helpful stranger who takes them to the nearest creepy mansion to spend the night on the condition that they have to leave first thing in the morning.
  3. A creepy night guard who tells them they shouldn’t be where they are because the place is haunted.

Scooby and Shaggy:

  1. Freak out and are soothed by Scooby snacks.
  2. Freak out and are soothed by Scooby snacks.
  3. Freak out and are soothed by Scooby snacks.

The ________________ makes an appearance.

  1. Spooky ghost of an old hotel guest.
  2. Old phantom gardener.
  3. Super creepy mean clown.

Scooby and Shaggy:

  1. Have to search for clues even though they don’t want to. Fred explains (again) what a clue is and tosses them some Scooby snacks, which make them willing to venture out into the spooky night to search for clues.
  2. Become bait for the villain while Fred, Daphne and Velma try to catch him in an ingenious trap. Fred, Daphne and Velma screw up the attempt and Scooby and Shaggy are then chased by the villain.
  3. Stumble upon a random smorgasbord of food which is actually a trap by the villain. They eat and eat and eat, then they are chased by the villain.

Then:

  1. Fred does something stupid like leaving important equipment at home to make room in the Mystery Machine for something stupid like a new stereo system. He compensates for his stupidity and devises a way to work around his mistake.
  2. Daphne changes into another awesome purple outfit, goes looking for clues on her own and gets kidnapped by the villain and/or devises a hydroelectric contraption from things found in her purse.
  3. Velma somehow loses her glasses and says, “My glasses! I can’t find my glasses!” Then the villain hands them to her.

Montage time! A chase ensues and the villain:

  1. Trips and is captured by Fred, Daphne and Velma.
  2. Leaves a revealing clue that launches Fred into a long but misguided discourse on its meaning.
  3. Ends up being caught in his own trap at the end of the Scooby – Shaggy – Villain – Chase montage.

At the revealing:

  1. Fred rips off the mask of the ghost and is surprised that it’s the hotel clerk who was trying to scare everyone away from the hotel because he discovered a hidden treasure inside and wanted it for himself.
  2. Daphne rips off the mask of the phantom and is surprised that it’s the helpful stranger who was trying to give the mansion a creepy reputation because he discovered it is sitting on a major deposit of gold and he wanted it for himself.
  3. Velma rips off the mask of the clown and is surprised that it’s the creepy night guard who was trying to scare everyone away from the carnival because he discovered it is sitting on a huge reserve of oil and he wanted it all for himself.

The villain then says:

  1. “And I would have done it, too, if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids!”
  2. “And I would have done it, too, if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids!”
  3. “And I would have done it, too, if it hadn’t been for you meddling kids!”

The police miraculously arrive and the Gang:

  1. Explain everything and then go grab something to eat because for some mysterious reason, Shaggy and Scooby always have the munchies.
  2. Explain everything and fix the Mystery Machine. The problem turned out to be something simple and Daphne fixes it with a bobby pin, a mascara wand and a gum wrapper from her purse.
  3. Explain everything and move on to another zany adventure involving ghosts and personal greed.

Scooby – Dooby – Dooooooo!
