5th Grade Production: Interpretive Dance

Brandon’s 5th grade put on their fall/winter production: an interpretive dance. I have to say that it was the first time I have attended an interpretive dance in an elementary school setting. It was a refreshing change from the usual music class production of either a Christmas program or songs depicting Americana, which seems to be a rite of passage for every elementary student.

As noted earlier, Brandon’s class represented “invisibility” and the other 5th grade classes represented father sky, mother earth and sister warrior. It was an interpretation of the book “On Etruscan Time.” Also featured was a percussion section along the lines of Stomp. I was really impressed with the kids doing percussion on 5 gallon buckets. A local performing arts group directed the kids and did a wonderful job.
